Tamil is one of the classical languages of the world and is rich in vast literary works and cultural heritage. Literature is considered a subject that teaches life, values, and human experiences. The Department of Tamil strives to provide sound knowledge in Tamil language and literature, enabling students to understand cultural traditions, ethical values, and literary excellence.

The B.A. Tamil Literature programme was started in the year 2012 with the objective of supporting students from rural backgrounds to pursue higher education after completing their higher secondary education. The department aims to promote interest in Tamil language and literature while developing communication skills, critical thinking, and cultural awareness among students. Continuous efforts are being taken to strengthen the academic standards of the department and to encourage students to actively participate in literary and cultural activities for their overall development.
