Introduction GASC

Government Arts and Science College, Eriyodu was established on 11 August 2012 as a constituent college of Madurai Kamaraj University, initially functioning from the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Vedasandur. Under the leadership of its first Principal, Dr.S.Krishnamoorthi, the college began with four undergraduate programs: B.A. Tamil, B.A. English, B.Com, and B.Sc. Mathematics. On 1 September 2014, the college moved to its permanent campus in Eriyodu, generously donated by Mrs. Dhanalakshmi – Palanichamy, Ex-MLA, covering 7.28 acres of land. The institution was officially taken over by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 11 December 2020 and renamed Government Arts and Science College, Eriyodu. Today, the college serves over 600 students and continues to offer the same four programs. Each department is led by Ph.D / NET / SET / SLET qualified and dedicated professors, and the campus features smart classrooms with digital boards, a well-equipped library, and sports facilities to support academic and physical development. The college proudly maintains a noise-free and litter-free environment, offering students a peaceful and clean space to learn and grow. In line with its commitment to expanding academic opportunities, the college has introduced a new undergraduate course-B.Sc. Computer Science-from the academic year 2025–2026.
